Safety in Maintenance

Maintenance Matters

Maintenance needs to be completed safely, and usually within a short timeframe. Having the right tools for the job is critical to reducing the risk of damaging components while ensuring the safety of the maintenance staff. For this reason, SKF is consistently developing products that help with the life cycle of removal, refitting and lubrication of bearings and other machine components.

TMMS Trisection pulling plate

When using a two-piece pulling plate, the bearing can be less supported and tilt on the shaft. This increases the risk of damaging the components, or the puller slipping and injuring the operator. SKF’s TMMS series trisection pulling plate allows for even force distribution, especially in the case of spherical roller bearings. Its unique design allows the force to be applied to the inner ring of the bearing and therefore less force is required to remove the bearing when compared to removing from the outer ring. The plate can be used with any three-armed puller and compliments the design of SKF’s TMMA EasyPull pullers

TMMX Puller Protection blankets along with TMMA

The sometimes-high forces involved with removing bearings can result in part failure, component slippage, or sudden release from the shaft. When this happens, there is an increased risk of the operator being struck by flying or falling parts. SKF puller protection blankets allow the operator to remove components with confidence that they are protected and contained, while still being able to observe what is happening.

The TMMX blankets are made of a tough, transparent plastic that is simply wrapped around the puller and components after the puller has been placed on the application. There are 3 sizes to choose from so it can be used in combination with many pullers, especially the SKF TMMA EasyPull range.

TMBH 1 bearing heater and selection tool

With a wide range of SKF bearing heater units available it can be difficult to decide which is best for your application. For this reason, SKF have released an online tool that allows you to input the bearing or application details to identify the most suitable heater option.

The TMBH 1 unit is a portable lightweight heater that can be used for bearings with an inner diameter ranging from 20 to 100mm. It creates no magnetisation at all and is equipped with temperature and time control. It is also supplied with TMBA G11 heat resistant gloves which allows for safe handling of components up to 150°C.

LAGF Grease filler pumps

The process of refilling grease guns can be a time consuming and hazardous process. The technicians skin is often exposed to grease and contaminants can be introduced into the grease that could lead to costly repairs and downtime. The SKF LAGF grease filler pump is designed it quickly fill the grease gun and reduces the risk of contamination. Rather than using grease cartridges that need to be replaced frequently and increase waste, it is a solution that allows for larger grease containers to be used that reduces the overall costs of lubrication and has the added benefit of being able to attach to the VKN550 SKF bearing packer.
