Automation Equipment 4.0 Technology for the Digital Factory

Product Watch

Industry 4.0 is made possible only by transparent process and condition data.

Automation Equipment, through its suppliers, is able to bring you a vast range of products that will help usher your business into the next industrial revolution – Industry 4.0.

For Automation Equipment’s German vacuum technology supplier ‘Schmalz’, this means intelligent devices that communicate with each other in the digital factory. In the Schmalz Connect product range, Schmalz bundles a whole range of smart field devices.

The state-of-the-art vacuum components are quickly integrated into the application environment via interfaces such as IO-Link, Ethernet or NFC. They continually gather and interpret energy and condition data from the process and make it available at the control panel, on the operator’s smartphone and in the cloud. Thus a seamless monitoring of the entire process becomes possible, enabling predictive maintenance to prevent downtime, optimise energy consumption and ultimately save money.

‘Igus’ Automation Equipment’s well known plastic components supplier from Germany has well and truly made the jump to offering Industry 4.0 products.

The smart products from the Igus isense range include a sensor for continuous measurement of push and pull forces as well as a sensor to detect chain link breakage. The service life of moving chainflex® cables can be predicted exactly until the warranty period expires. For the period thereafter, a sensor called CF.Q has been developed. The remaining service life is estimated by monitoring the electrical parameters.

For condition measurements, such as acceleration or temperatures, the EC.M can be used, the measured values are the basis for further more complex calculations. The PRT.W sensor provides wear status of slewing ring bearings. For linear drives, the DL.W sensor provides timely wear status.

This data is only a small part of what makes the isense product family a strong smart tool for ‘Industry 4.0’. These sensors become more useful when linked to the icom module, a data collection module that imports the data of the isense product family into the system for use in preventative maintenance.
