South Otago director Kate Faulks will receive an Institute of Directors (IoD) Emerging Director Award.

Kate Faulks has an MBA in chemical engineering, and a Wonder Project Ambassador for Engineering NZ who spent her early career as a project engineer and terminal manager with ExxonMobil, managing technical queries, procurement, logistics, health and safety, risk management, and financial planning, which lay the foundations for her governance path.

A farmer and director of Altavady and Glenkerry Farms—a six-farm family group—in 2022, she served as a board intern for Port Otago, and its subsidiary, Chalmers Properties. She is currently a board member for Ravensdown and has community board roles with North Otago Sustainable Land Management Group Steering Board, and the Papakaio Mountain Bike Race Committee.

Institute of Directors CEO Kirsten Patterson said the winners showed tremendous dedication towards their governance development, and a commitment towards business and community initiatives within the region.

Kate demonstrates the passion and determination to contribute to the growth of business and the community in South Otago. We look forward to seeing where this development opportunity takes her,” Patterson said.

Otago Southland Branch Chair, Scott Mason, said the two directors have demonstrated a commitment to leadership and governance development, driven by the wider reaching impacts for the community.

“Kate’s passions extend to the development of young women in rural areas. She is an inspiring leader with a clear vision and deep understanding of where she sees herself in the wider governance landscape,” Mason said.

The Institute of Directors Emerging Director Award fosters upcoming talent in governance, recognising individuals who have the ability to provide leadership in the business and community sectors.

She will receive complimentary membership with the IoD for 12 months, including attendance at all branch functions and events; mentorship with an experienced director, and $2,000.00 (GST excluded) towards professional development with the IoD.
