Hot spots cause for concern

Electrical Technology

Thermal imaging has become popular with business-owners looking to identify stress points and future problems with their electrical equipment, before they become a serious issue.
According to one insurance broker a property owner that undergoes this sort of preventive maintenance is likely to be looked at more favourably when it comes to assessing premiums.
“They rate it as standard rather than as an additional loading despite the age of the wiring or the high level of hot spots,” says Athenry managing director, Dave Harris.
“They believe that it’s in the best interests of all owners to have regular thermal imaging checks and that in fact should be compulsory for every building,” he said.
Thermal imaging is a service provided by Athenry Electrical which is non intrusive and allows customers to test their equipment under stress to ensure it is working within its limits.
Most companies sign up to a yearly maintenance programme but in some cases, where the plant is hard working, this can be often as little as six months.
Electrical estimator, Geoff Clarke, a registered electrician certified to Level 1 Thermography is responsible for implementing  all the thermal imaging work undertaken by Athenry Electrical.
