The fire risks associated with tunnels, especially those used for transportation, can be substantial. In fact, they can be one of the worst environments to extinguish a fire as they are often underground and therefore a long distance from safety. To save lives, every second counts.
This is why the new RRZ nozzle is so impressive. It’s a full cone nozzle designed specifically for fire protection in tunnels – particularly road and rail tunnels where potentially hundreds of lives are at risk. Designed and made in Italy from AISI 316 stainless steel, the nozzle can deliver high capacity water jets of 130 litres per minute and spray coverage of up to 12 metres at a 2 metre installation height.
This high-quality nozzle is able to deliver fine droplets of mist - even with pressures of 5 bar (72psi). The nozzle can be customised to meet different specifications around flow rate and spray coverage.
The RRZ nozzle works by using water pressure to rotate and generate the water spray, which at high pressure can create an atomised water cloud. This water cloud is then uniformly distributed across a perfect circumference while achieving an instant 180° spray angle. At low water pressures (from 1- 2 bar or 14.5 to 29 psi), the nozzle achieves a wide netting of 12 metres, with a coarser water droplet diameter.
Designed and manufactured by PNR Italy, the nozzle experts, the RRZ nozzle has been designed to ensure easy installation and maintenance. PNR Italy received the Seal of Excellence from the European Commission for the RRZ project : optimization, operational environment testing and approval for use of the RRZ nozzle in highway tunnels as an active firefighting system.
Since 1968 PNR has been designing and manufacturing fire-safety components. All PNR nozzles are sold exclusively in Australia and New Zealand by Tecpro Australia.
