Range to serve energy-intensive applications
Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, has broadened its range of Altivar Process drives to now include a solution for energy-intensive applications in the oil and gas and mining, minerals & metals sectors.

Altivar Process drives help to optimise business performance by reducing commissioning time and significantly improving production uptime. In addition, they are designed to optimise energy usage during production for increased savings.

Alain Dedieu, SVP of Schneider Electric’s Industry Control & Drives business, said, “We are pleased to offer enhanced solutions for process industries. Our customers can now use Altivar Process for everything from single-drive projects to the most complex multidrive applications involving advanced load-sharing functions. We also deliver process performance improvement, energy optimisation and asset management thanks to our services-oriented Drives concept.”

Altivar Process is an essential part of an integrated industrial network
Altivar Process is more than just a drive. It is a services-oriented device that conveys meaningful information to industry specialists such as petroleum engineers or mining engineers, rather than simply speaking the language of drives specialists. The drive connects to the industrial network, delivering process information directly to users’ fingertips. This helps to optimise each industrial process, whether it’s a conveyor belt in a mine, a pump for an oil well, or a process crane in a steelworks.

Moreover, Altivar Process is able to communicate real-time data, thanks to built-in Internet connectivity. This allows staff to adjust their operations, reducing energy usage and improving production outputs.

A direct connection to technical expertise
The connectivity provided by Altivar Process isn’t limited to local operations. It also allows technical experts located anywhere in the world to review output information and provide advice to operators. Operators can also scan QR codes shown on the drive and connect directly to troubleshooting information if the need arises.

Maintenance made easier
Altivar Process also simplifies maintenance and boosts uptime. By communicating performance data, it allows operators to anticipate and identify potential maintenance issues.

In the event of downtime, operators can access vital maintenance information via the device’s screen or the embedded webserver. Moreover, thanks to a modular design and standardised parts, replacing components is simplified.

Oil & Gas applications
The updated Altivar Process range is well suited to artificial lift applications for onshore oil production (electro-submersible pumps, rod pumps and progressive cavity pumps), as well as drilling rig and oil refinery applications. It improves production efficiency thanks to better application control and data connectivity. Benefits include:

  • The ability to control production from a central location.
  • Minimised downtime for pumping operations, even during power outages.
  • Specially designed drive enclosures that can withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Direct access to trouble-shooting information.
  • Real-time data-logging for analytics (data analysis, asset management, performance).

Mining, Minerals and Metals applications
The new Altivar Process is also suited for conveyors, stacker/reclaimers, and process cranes, providing enhanced motor control for improved energy efficiency and uptime. Benefits include:

  • Drive to drive load sharing, to reduce strain on individual drives.
  • Greater safety and cybersecurity, thanks to compliance with the latest standards.
  • High resistance to load and higher current available, for greater motor reactivity and stability
