Engineering Associates Registrar to Retire

News

John Edgar (REA) has indicated to the Engineering Associates Registration Board that he wishes to retire from the position of the Board’s Registrar to allow the pursuit of more leisurely activities. John has fulfilled the duties of Registrar since 1998, and before that as a member of the Board for 24 years on the nomination of the then NZ Institute of Mechanical Engineers Inc.

John commenced his career with an oil company mainly on the operations side, before joining the then new nylon extrusion plant at Shannon. Upon its collapse, John returned to the oil industry as an engineer with a contracting service company. One highlight of his career was his appointment as the Project Manager for the NZ oil industry for the metric conversion of all the fuel dispensing equipment. John became Operations Director for the Service Company, until its absorption into a large UK based corporation, retiring to become a consultant until 1999.

The Board has enjoyed the benefit of John’s organising and administrative ability to ensure that the Board’s office located in Wellington remained efficient whilst keeping pace with technology developments. John’s prior experience as a Quality Systems Auditor / Administrator has contributed to the ongoing improvement in administration systems.

The Board will be advertising for a Registrar to commence about April 2018 and believes it would suit someone who would enjoy a part-time occupation within the engineering industry. The Registrar needs to be conversant with the hierarchy levels of the Engineering Technician and Technologist frameworks, and demonstrate skilled communication and administrative abilities. It is a sole charge position so self-motivation is essential to satisfy the demands of all the tasks involved in the statutory environment of the Engineering Associates Act. Meanwhile, the Board welcomes expressions of interest in this position, in anticipation of the formal advertisements. See the website for all contact details.

Further details will be presented on the Board’s website and formally advertised in the media in the early months of 2018.
