Hamilton-based Stainless Design Ltd (SDL), are leaders in engineering, laser cutting and metal fabrication, committed to providing customers with innovative solutions using all grades of Carbon Steel, Aluminium and Stainless Steel to produce quality components and assemblies.
Their state-of-the-art technology enables the company to create products of the highest standard, cost effectively and efficiently. Whether the project entails the manufacture of a prototype or completing an entire production run, the result is a high quality solution for many of New Zealand’s leading businesses across a broad range of industries: architecture, brewing/winemaking, dairy and food manufacturing, filtration, pharmaceutical, pulp and paper.
SDL’s 2000m2 workshop is staffed by a highly skilled team of specialist fabricators with more than a century of combined experience, and is well equipped with four gantry cranes, a polishing shop, bead blasting booth and post fabrication machining which is SDL’s speciality.
In 2017, SDL approached NZDUCT+FLEX to improve extraction in the mild steel area and the company was able to fit (from stock) a four-metre reach fume arm on a four-metre boom with a 2.2kW fume fan, to cover the area required by SDL staff, but install without getting in the way of the gantry cranes already in situ. Two years later a new laser cutter installed by SDL required additional extraction to ensure there was no possibility for staff to breath in any escaping smoke or fumes. Health and safety is top priority for Stainless Design. To solve the laser cutter issues, two 2.2kW fume arm fans were positioned above a custom made hood to extract the rising fumes effectively. When designing the install NZDUCT+FLEX had to choose the fans to remove the fumes but not affect down suction of the cutter. The system is running well and as a company well recognised for their own decorative and functional products, Peter Pooran, CEO for SDL is pleased with the overall cosmetics and functionality of the installation.
NZDUCT+FLEX have the largest range of fume arms in stock starting with 75mm arms/one-metre reach, up to 160mm dia./4m reach. The distinctive arms have blue powder coated metal tubes (also available in stainless) with external hinging to make minimal maintenance possible – these arms from one of Europe’s leading suppliers are incredibly good value. Many major metal manufacturing companies are actively replacing their existing stock of other brands, with these distinctive blue and yellow products, because the down time for cleaning and unjamming other brands just costs too much. The arms can be wall mounted if the weld area is in bays, or attached to a boom giving a phenomenal eight-metre reach if required as supplied here. They can also be incorporated in to a moving channel system.
NZ Duct+Flex’s own installation team have installed hundreds of fume solutions over the last 10 years. “Our suppliers have been around for decades and their products have been tried and tested and enhanced over this time. No other company can offer what we offer in NZ, a source of LIPLOCK® modular ducting components, fans, and fume filtration units, guaranteed to work as a system efficiently and effectively, “ says Sales Manager Geoff Ebdon.
