Ports of Auckland’s board Chair Jan Dawson has today announced the appointment of two new directors.
“I am pleased to announce that two experienced directors, Geoff Plunket and Stephen Reindler (pictured), will join the Ports of Auckland Board”, said Ms Dawson. “They both bring very relevant skills to the board that complement the current directors and support our current focus areas.”
“Stephen is currently a director of Z Energy and Steel and Tube and a previous director of Port of Napier, Meridian Energy and Worksafe NZ. He has extensive experience working in industries where staff operate in higher risk roles and a rigorous approach to safety is needed. Stephen will strengthen our ability to focus on improving safety while bringing his engineering experience to the projects the port has underway.”
“Geoff is the former CEO of Port Otago, with nearly 30 years of experience in senior roles in that company. Geoff’s knowledge of port operations and the supply chain and his belief in the importance of customer service will be invaluable as we work to safely improve our operational and financial performance,” she said.
“I am delighted to have been able to recruit such strong candidates to the Ports of Auckland board, which I believe reflects the importance of the Port to Auckland and New Zealand, and bodes well for the future of the company,” she added.
Mayor Phil Goff said, “We have now substantially changed the composition of the Ports of Auckland board and we will by early next year have a new chief executive. This will provide impetus for a new and different approach which is aimed to improve the Port’s performance.”
“We look forward to the new board fully implementing the recommendations to change the culture of health and safety at the Port following the independent review; meeting the challenges posed by COVID-19 and its impact on supply chains, overseeing the implementation of automation at the Port, and improving the Port’s financial performance and competitiveness.”
Both new directors will formally start on November 1.
About Stephen Reindler
Stephen is a professional director and mechanical engineer with experience in heavy industry, large infrastructure, and workplace health and safety.
He holds several directorships, including Z Energy, Steel and Tube Holdings, Christchurch Multi Use Arena Project Delivery, Broome International Airport Group, and is chair of Waste Disposal Services, Clearwater Construction and D&H Steel Construction. He also provides advisory services to AgResearch, Air New Zealand and Lincoln University on infrastructure builds. He was previously on the boards of Port of Napier, Meridian Energy, Naylor Love, the advisory boards of Transfield Services and Glidepath, and is a past President of the Institution of Professional Engineers NZ.
About Geoff Plunket
Geoff is a Professional Director and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a Member of the Institute of Directors.
Geoff worked for Coopers & Lybrand (now PWC) and KPMG, in Dunedin and Birmingham, UK through the 1980’s before joining Port Otago Ltd in 1988, as Chief Financial Officer. Geoff spent the following 29 years with the Port Otago Group, working across the business in a variety of roles, culminating in appointment as CEO in 2004. He is currently Chair of Blis Technologies Ltd.
Geoff brings significant experience in leading a large successful organisation with expertise in logistics, managing international trading relationships, supply chain, human resource, health and safety and risk management. Geoff believes success comes from a focus on quality and delivering outstanding customer service.
