Drury forging and engineering company Safe Group hosted members of the Maintenance Engineering Society of New Zealand in an after-hours show-and-tell as part of the society’s regional network evening series.
Designed to showcase local suppliers and provide networking opportunities for engineers across all regions of New Zealand, the evenings provide an opportunity to take a look at the host operation and discuss common issues and solutions in a relaxed after work environment. Open to interested members of the public, the nights are well patronised as proven at the Drury premises of Safe with 109 people registering for the May evening, some coming from as far afield as Tauranga and Hamilton.
The team at Safe, led by Barry Robinson, provided a demonstration of the forging process, while attendees also took the time to investigate the site’s metallurgy provider, solar power supply and a display of the potential of the cutting edge sintered titanium process.
To wrap up the evening, the legacy of Safe as a Kiwi “can do” company was no better demonstrated by the family-based team cooking a sheep on the spit using its solar powered heat treatment ovens.
As well as learning first-hand tips on forging, metallurgy and the capabilities of the 44-year-old business, the audience benefited from the opportunity to network with their peers, taking new connections and solutions back to their workplaces.
The Maintenance Engineering Society is active across New Zealand, providing opportunities for maintenance engineers and manufacturing operations to network and share innovations and experiences; both at a national level at their annual conference or at these regional events.
