Jack Pugh, a 22-year-old Massey University Industrial Design graduate has been revealed as the James Dyson Award New Zealand winner. His invention, Cap Snap is a medical multi-tool designed to improve safety for healthcare workers and reduce medical waste in New Zealand hospitals.

Cap Snap simplifies the removal of crimp seals from medication vials and safely breaks glass ampoules, minimising the risk of injury for healthcare staff while addressing sustainability challenges by reducing the amount of medical waste going to landfill.
 
Jack's design has the potential to reshape safety protocols and waste management in hospitals across New Zealand. He consulted with Wellington Hospital's Intensive Care Sustainability Group in the development of this tool, addressing real-world challenges faced by those on the front lines.
