Protecting oil and gas infrastructure

General

APPLIED technology company, Polymer Developments Group Limited (PDG), provides a unique offering to the oil and gas industry for the protection of infrastructure and property assets.

Fireproofing is a number one priority for the company. Through its principal licensor (Carboline Company of Missouri in the US) PDG has a very long history of providing fireproofing solutions for oil and gas facilities. Hydrocarbon fires are usually fierce, rapidly expanding and often explosive. Modern protection systems encompass trowelled on cementitious materials (such as Pyrocrete 241), sheet materials, and the more recently upgraded intumescent type (Nullifire).

Nullifire System E was the passive fire protection system of choice for the New Zealand Refining Company for its recently completed Future Fuels project at Marsden Point, in Northland. This project was internationally engineered by Foster Wheeler, fabricated in Asia with final assembly and detail work being done on site.

Nullifire System E is a high build, intumescent, fire proofing material meeting the performance requirements of the oil and gas industry.

Anti-corrosive protection

Many oil and gas facilities by their very nature are exposed to a marine environment.  Offshore drilling and production platforms are subjected to the most severe environmental conditions, requiring extreme high performance coating technology to protect the many thousands of tonnes of essential structure. Carbozinc 7WB has an outstanding record as a single coat, anti-corrosive, waterborne, inorganic, zinc protection system  delivering a comprehensive solution in an extreme environment with a single coat.

Polymer Developments licensor Carboline writes international specifications for the global oil and gas industry, enabling all international affiliates to liaise and locally produce state of the art protective coating materials. Product selection and specification preparation plays a leading role in liaising with key international engineering consultancies. Facilitating remote fabrication followed by on-site erection and final completion, global specifications ensure harmonious product supply from multiple locations.

High performance insulation

The speciality chemicals division of Polymer Developments Group is New Zealands only local manufacturer of high performance rigid polyurethane foam insulation systems. Extensively utilised for the manufacture of pre-insulated pipe, as well as in-situ onsite injection, insulation materials range from hydrocarbon and hydrochloroflurocarbon gas blown types to the syntactic variety for submerged/deep sea applications.

The physical requirements of the environment, the K factor performance and the location of the installation are all determinants in providing the most appropriate insulation material for a specific application.

As well as developing and manufacturing from its own in-house technology PDG is a licensed manufacturer to Huntsman Polyurethanes, providing the company with access to leading international developments, laboratories and technology.

Waterproofing that works

Waterproofing of property assets, be they manufactured from concrete, steel or timber, is a continuing challenge in an environment such as New Zealands.

PDG has been a pioneer of liquid applied waterproofing systems which provide seamless, durable, tenaciously adhered membranes over all substrates.

Appropriate environmental and chemical resistance is achieved from appropriate product selection and detailed specification. Whether it is in the oil and gas, dairying or power generation industries, waterproofing that works is essential.

Contract application and supervision

Polymer Developments Group has its own contracting division headed by contracting general manager Ron Avery.  The role of the division is to liaise with key clients and provide seamless project management incorporating a comprehensive product selection and specification service followed by project management and installation through to maintenance warranty issuance.

PDG provides comprehensive solutions across many industries within New Zealand including oil and gas, namely power generation, pulp and paper, food and beverage, commercial and industrial construction.

Polymer Developments Group Limited will be exhibiting at the New Zealand Water and Waste Water conference in Christchurch from 11 to 13 October and can be found on Stand 104.
